The History of a Street
This site contains a miscellaneous collection of information about Westgate, the road and suburb which started to grow up outside the West Gate of the Roman city of Chichester nearly 2000 years ago.
This is a non-profit making project started by local residents Colin Hicks in 2016, with considerable and more recent embellishment (2023) by Richard Brownfield. The object is to collect information about this historic street in one place – most of which is already in the public arena – so that it is not lost.
Copyright: Most of the information and pictures have already been published, often in more than one place, and it has been difficult to know who may own the original source. We have tried to give the sources used. If anyone is concerned that an item has been inappropriately included, please let us know and we will remove it.
