3-9 Westgate as The Georgian Priory

This is a residential development of 11 units originally converted in 1985/6 from the buildings of the old Theological College in Westgate by the Abbey Building Association Ltd. (which became the Abbey National Building Society). It is run by a resident’s management company.

A plaque now in the front hall of number 3 (the apartments)

The name Georgian Priory was chosen because part of the sale agreement stated that the name of any development on land sold by the College should have no reference to the Theological College. The name has no historical association with any previous building and the site was certainly never a priory.

The units were sold in 1987, with the property divided into 5 leasehold apartments:

No. 3: 3A-3E and 6 freehold houses,

Nos. 1 – 3 The Courtyard,

No.5 was created as a separate house.

The old house, originally known as 4 and then as number 11, was divided into two as numbers 7 and 9.
